From 14th -17th September Grade 7 & 8 made a grand tour of Switzerland with their teachers. Travelling to Bellinzona via Luzern, Bern and Fribourg, students experienced a fast motion wander through the history of multilingual Switzerland. Some examples of the highlights given by the students themselves included; the celebration of medieval castles, the cathedrals, the Transport Museum, the old town of Fribourg, speaking French with the locals (how proud they were of their knowledge! ), the Bundeshaus, as well as the social atmosphere at the Bowling & Crêpes evening in Fribourg. On their return to school on the Friday, students were assessed in order to cement their newly acquired knowledge.
From 14th-18th September Grade 9 & 10 travelled abroad for a second time for their cultural trip. After Florence in 2014, they headed for Antibes (South of France). Not only did they speak French on a daily basis, students were also required to keep a travel diary in French each evening. It is a key focus on Upper School cultural trips that students work across subject areas in an interdisciplinary approach in order to promote the sustainability of learning. The programme therefore also included art, history and geography, drawing on a variety of resources; the Chagall museum and specifically the artists' colony of Saint-Paul de Vence, the Cap d'Antibes and Grimaldi Palace, illustrating to students that the South of France has more to offer than the Cannes film festival! In preparation for the trip students read the novel "Perfume" in German. This learning was taken further with a visit to the Grasse Perfume Museum, where they got to know the steps of perfumery.
